Silent Day of Prayer

The St. Basil Centering Prayer group is glad to announce a day for getting together in silent prayer on Saturday, January 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., we will have two sessions of Centering Prayer, time for Lectio Divina, and listen to a short reading from Fr. Thomas Keating or other teachings from Contemplative Outreach.

If you are in need of a quiet space to pray with a contemplative community, you are invited to share this moment with us.

Do you seek the still, quiet voice of God? Come explore the indwelling presence of God within each of us and our intimate relationship with that presence. Experienced practitioners, commissioned by Contemplative Outreach, Ltd., will present a method of Christian meditation — Centering Prayer. We will discuss the benefits of Centering Prayer in ordinary life and experience two periods of practice. Discover the meaning of Psalm 46: “Be still and know that I am God.”

A donation of $30 per person is requested (make checks payable to CONEO). Lunch provided. All participants will receive a copy of Open Mind, Open Heart by Father Thomas Keating

A special Retreat / Conference weekend presented by Susan Komis, allowing sacred space and time to explore the Seven Mansions of Teresa of Avila’s Interior Castle. Together we reflected on the light of Teresa’s timeless insights into the human soul, its journey towards God, and how Teresa’s teaching is relevant to our personal contemporary spiritual journey. This retreat/conference included presentations, small group discussion with periods of Centering Prayer, reflection and silence. Suggested reading for this special event was “The Interior Castle,” from the Collected Works of Teresa, Vol. II, translation by Kavanaugh & Rodriguez.

Description

The morning will include several sessions of sitting Centering Prayer, readings and quiet reflection. To help us keep the event on schedule, we recommend arriving early to allow time for socializing and having some coffee and refreshments. To help us plan, please RSVP using the contact information below.

The meeting will take place in Mary’s Room, which is handicapped accessible. Mary’s Room is a free-standing building that is part of the St. Christopher Parish. Lakeview Road is the east boundary of the church. The entry to Mary’s Room is the first driveway west of the church. Follow the signs to Mary’s Room from that point.
